Matt brings a wealth of high-level coaching and swimming experience to Shawmut. Matt is a Walpole, Massachusetts native. As an age group swimmer, Matt specialized in sprinting mid-distance freestyle, breaststroke and individual medley. Before becoming perhaps the best sprinter and middle distance swimmer in Old Dominion history, Matt was a standout swimmer in New England for the Mass Bay Marlins and Bruin Swim Club. Matt currently holds school and regional records at Old Dominion University and Xaverian Brothers High School. Matt has qualified for NCAA Championship and Olympic Trials in his collegiate career. Matt coaches with the enthusiasm that allows his swimmers to be more confident in their swimming. Matt previously coached with the Bay and Ocean State Squids in Boston, Long Island Aquatic Club in New York at the Senior and Junior level and Old Dominion Aquatic Club in Virginia as Head Age Group Coach.
Susan is a Cambridge, Ma. native and an alumna of the Bernal's Gator Swim Club. As a sprint freestyle / butterfly specialist, she swam collegiately for the University of Florida Gators and UCLA Bruins earning NCAA All-American honors for both schools. She competed at the 1996 Olympic Trials in the sprint freestyles and was a two time Junior National Champion (100 meter free & 200 yard free). Susan's coaching experience began at UCLA where she spent four years on staff, three as a student-assistant coach and one year as the Assistant Women's Coach under the tutelage of Head Coach Cyndi Gallagher. During her last year on staff, the UCLA Bruins won their 1st Pac-10 Conference title. Susan also enjoyed coaching two years for the West Hollywood Aquatics, in West Hollywood, CA.
Katie is in her third year as a coach of Shawmut Aquatic Club. She also has 10 years of swimming experience at the local, national and international level. Katie swam with the Mass Bay Marlins under Mike Chasson and at the University of Arizona. Katie was a Junior National champion in 1995 and a member of the National Junior Team that competed in Paris, France, in 1996. She also competed at Olympic Trials in 1996 and 2000. Katie was a member of the gold-winning US National team competing at the Goodwill Games in 1996. In 1999 she represented the United States and won a gold and a bronze medal at the World University Games in Majorca, Spain. While at the University of Arizona, Katie competed in four NCAA championships where the Wildcats finished in the top five every year. During Katie's tenure at the University of Arizona, she was twice names a Division I All-American. Katie was world ranked in the top 25 from 1995-2000. Katie holds New England records in the 400 meter, 800 meter and 1500 meter freestyles (1998). In addition to working with Shawmut, Katie works full- time in the investor relations department at Staples corporate headquarters in Framingham.
Chantel is starting her third year with Shawmut. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the Age Group program. Chantel earned a scholarship and swam collegiate for University Pittsburgh. She qualified for Canadian Olympic Trials and Senior Nationals in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke. Her coaching experience includes 4 years for Bernal’s Gator Swim Club, Natick Winter swim team, and Natick soccer team. In addition to working for Shawmut, Chantel is a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker.
Andrew returns to Shawmut this year, and we are very happy to have him. Andrew swam competitively at U. Mass Dartmouth. He was captain of the men's team his senior year and was proficient in all strokes, but especially sprint freestyle and butterfly. Andrew has coached the Longfellow Stingrays summer team for the last four years, and he was an assistant coach for U. Mass. Dartmouth for the two years.
